It’s autumn and there’s more in the air besides falling leaves that are swirling in the wind.
If you’re an empath like me, you’re likely feeling the intensity of crazy energy swirling around you too. Maybe you’re susceptible to picking up other people’s energies including negative vibes that lower your energetic field.
Dark information can definitely feel heavy and energy depleting. You might feel your energy drain instantly when you hear something alarming, or it can happen gradually over time.
The information you’re being fed each day matters. Just as you probably pay attention to the food you eat, choosing organic and non-GMO options and taking the right vitamins and supplements, paying attention to what you feed your mind is just as important, if not more.
Big data is the beast at war with your mind.
Social media, news, alternative news, podcasts, TV, music and information from other people influence your mood, thoughts, mindset and mental health. Most of us don’t pay much attention to big data until it begins to get lodged in our subconscious mind. And then it begins to manifest in our body affecting our sense of well-being.
Feeling well begins with taking control over your mind. It means tuning out fear, confusion, obsessive, worrisome, negative and destructive thoughts.
The media’s purpose is to frighten the crap out of you each day.
Their scare tactics are ramping up like we’ve never seen before. Whether it’s a new virus on the loose, a climate emergency, a mass shooting, or societal collapse, the media’s job is to keep you in a state of mass confusion and perpetual fear. When you can’t think straight, you’re more likely to make sub-par decisions. You’re less likely to think critically and objectively, and therefore less likely to question the fear propaganda you’re being fed daily. Plus, fear and confusion weaken your immunity as I’ve said before, and you become more susceptible to getting sick, or catching a deadly disease.
And make no mistake, the fear porn is heating up on both sides of the spectrum: whether you’re a liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, pro-vaccine or an anti-vaxxer, conspiracy theorist or woke/critical race theorist. It’s easy to fall down a rabbit hole, or multiple ones, and find yourself lost in a slew of wild information that’s really not serving your well-being. Mass distractions are everywhere.
If you don’t protect and guard your mindset, you’re going to lose control over your life.
The time is now to stop listening to all of those external voices and to hone into your inner compass, your inner voice.
I’m not saying to become a hermit and tune all of it out. But I’m advocating for putting your mental health first and foremost noticing what you’re feeding it daily and mindfully choosing what you’re consuming.
When you tune in to your inner voice, you’re tuning into God’s voice.
God’s voice is the voice of guidance, protection comfort and enlightenment.
Here’s how you do this:
· Find stillness each day. You can try a guided meditation or you could simply sit in silence for a few minutes in the morning when you wake up or at the end of the day before you go to sleep. Sit with your eyes closed and check in to see how your mind and body feels. Notice and observe your racing thoughts without judgment. Notice any discomfort or pain and gently ask it to leave. Notice what feels good. Find gratitude in all of it and send gratitude out to the universe.
· Breathe deeply throughout the day. Take some belly breaths when you’re behind the wheel and stuck at a red light, or while waiting in line.
· Savour things that comfort you (in moderation, of course). It could be your morning cup of coffee or a warm, hearty bowl of your favourite soup. Enjoy it without any distractions and let it soothe your spirit.
· Turn off your phone and all electronics for at least a couple of hours each day and before you go to bed. Your mind needs downtime every single day and night! This is a hard one for most people (myself included), but make a conscious effort to start with a few minutes a day and then build up to a healthy chunk of time each day. Notice how your mood improves and how your newsfeed becomes less important over time.
· Spend real, in-person time with people who reassure and uplift your spirit. And spend quality time with your pets!
· Get outdoors. Autumn is simply breathtaking with the changing fall colours. The crisp air will clear your mind and centre your spirit. Make it a habit to go for a walk daily, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
· Read scripture and pray, if you’re inclined. God’s voice has a proven way of speaking to us when we immerse ourselves in His teachings, whatever your faith may be. In dark times like now, returning to God’s word and keeping faith is all that’s really needed to elevate humanity into a new era of enlightenment. And it begins at the individual level – with you.
By tuning into God’s voice, your inner voice, you’ll begin to notice what matters to you the most. It’s you – your core beliefs, morals, values and inner truth, and no one else’s.
As you consciously build mental resiliency, you’ll become less susceptible to fear porn. You’ll begin to automatically tune out the mindless chatter and propaganda. You’ll step into living in the present moment with a deeper understanding of who you really are. Everything in your life may not be A-OK, but you’ll be more accepting of your reality, knowing everything you’re going through is for a higher reason. Clarity will begin to emerge along the way.
Just as you pay attention to the road when driving, pay attention to the thoughts driving your mind.
Don’t let your mind speed out of control. Listen attentively to your inner voice to steer you in the right direction. Because having the right mindset is like defensive driving and wearing your seatbelt – it protects us at all costs and can save your life.
